Paddleboard, Foiling & Kite Race Coming to Mission Bay

Attention stand-up paddleboard, kitesurfing, and foil board enthusiasts: An opportunity to compete and race right here in San Diego is coming up this weekend.

On Sunday, May 31, Bird Rock Funding will be hosting the Mission Bay Foil and SUP Competition, a race with different categories for kite surfing, wing-boarding, stand-up paddleboarding, and e-foiling. It’s being held in Mission Bay starting at 9 a.m.

“We don’t get many wind events because our conditions are not reliable,” the organizers wrote. “Foiling has changed this previous restriction and it’s time we had an organized contest.”

The paddleboard and surf race will officially kick off at 9 a.m. with a competitor meeting. From there, there will be various competitions available for attendees to take part in.

  • SUP Pro 9:30 a.m.
  • Sup Casual 10 a.m.
  • E-Foil 10:30 a.m.
  • Kite Race Pro 11:30 a.m.
  • Kite Race Casual 11:50 a.m.
  • Wing Foil Race Pro 12:10 p.m.
  • Wing Foil Race Causal 12:30 p.m.
  • Kite Big Air / Best Trick 12:45 p.m.
  • Wing Foil Best Trick 12:45 p.m.

There’s a first-place trophy in every event, and the first, second, and third-place winners will receive a podium photograph. Additionally, various gift cards will be awarded to participants in events with the most competitors.

There is no entry fee for the foiling and paddleboard race, but the organizers say there’s an optional $30 donation for a custom rash guard with the event logo. The event location is the Playa Pacifica Park parking lot in San Diego, California.

It’s an excellent opportunity for water activity enthusiasts, whether you’re a fan of SUPing or you know how to windsurf in San Diego.
