Local Businesses Present Plan to Fix La Jolla Shores Parking

La Jolla Shores parking can be a pain, but an association representing area businesses has a plan to fix the situation for tourists and locals alike.

A hotspot for outdoor dining in San Diego, La Jolla Shores is a must-visit spot for both San Diego County residents and visitors to the area. That’s because the area embraced the idea of al fresco dining introduced in 2020 — and decided to stick with it.

However, parking is an issue since local regulations require that communities replace any parking spots taken by permanent outdoor dining. For a popular beach area like La Jolla Shores, that’s a difficult proposition.

Currently, the California Coastal Commission requires that businesses near the beach replace parking spots used for outdoor dining. The rules that stipulate proximity, since the spots must be within a quarter mile of the lost parking.

However, according to FOX 5 San Diego, local businesses have a plan. The La Jolla Shores Business Association presented a plan last week that would add 24 parking spots next to the existing Kellogg Park parking lot, which is located around the corner from La Jolla Shores on Camino Del Oro.

Local business owner Darren Moore told the news outlet that the project has been a “challenge.” However, he said that he’s confident the plan will be approved and would be a “testament of the collaborative work that the community has done along with the city.”

Moore might be right. According to FOX 5, the City of San Diego and other officials support the La Jolla Shores parking plan.
