San Diego is the Second Best Place to Celebrate New Year’s Eve

A new study has crowned San Diego as the second-best place to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the entire U.S.

Recently, WalletHub ranked a number of top U.S. cities by several factors, including entertainment, food, cost, safety, and accessibility. Their result was a list of 100 cities ranked as the best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Although places like Las Vegas and New York City often draw huge crowds for New Year’s Eve celebrations, they can also be incredibly expensive cities — especially because many local businesses hike up prices around Dec. 31.

Because of that, WalletHub ranked Orlando, Florida as the best place to celebrate New Year’s Eve this year. The Florida city had a total rank of 71.88 based on the aforementioned metrics.

San Diego ranked second in the listing with a score of 69.70, just beating out New York City, Las Vegas, and Atlanta, Georgia, in that order.

Other cities in the top 10 include:

  • Miami, Florida
  • Los Angeles, California
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Washington, D.C.

“When choosing which city to spend New Year’s in, it’s important to consider a variety of factors, from the activities offered to how big the crowds will be to what weather you can expect,” said Cassandra Happe, a WalletHub analyst. “The biggest concern has to be the cost. Hotels and restaurants may hike their prices significantly for the holiday, which puts an extra strain on people’s wallets after they have already been hit hard by inflation.”
