Save Our Heritage Organization Honors Trio of La Jolla Residents

Save Our Heritage Organization, which is dedicated to preserving San Diego’s rich history, has honored a trio of La Jolla residents with a prestigious preservation award.

The Save Our Heritage Organization (SOHO) presented three people from La Jolla with People In Preservation awards, which celebrates those who are actively safeguarding San Diego’s history. This year, the three recipients are:

  • Molly McLain
  • Seonaid McArthur
  • Diane Kane

Additionally, SOHO also presented the award to the La Jolla Historical Society, which is a top museum in La Jolla and an organization working to protect the neighborhood’s rich historical tapestry.

According to SDNews.com, La Jolla resident and PIP award recipient Dr. Diane Kane was involved in a yearslong project to create a new La Jolla Park Coastal Historical District around the Ellen Browning Scripps Park.

In June 2024, the La Jolla Park Coastal Historical District — which includes La Jolla Cove and the Children’s Pool Beach — was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area represents one of the most-visited places by tourists in San Diego.

Dr. Kane and the team will be honored with the award at the 42nd annual SOHO People in Preservation Awards ceremony on Sept. 13. This year, the event focuses on three themes: National Historic Districts, adaptive reuse, and the impact of lifetime preservation.

The awards ceremony will be held at the newly restored gardens at the Marston House Museum near Balboa Park.
