Beyond Brunch: 7 Easter Sunday Church Services Near La Jolla
When you think of Easter in La Jolla, what do you think of? Maybe it’s buying pastel arrangements on Girard or buying Peeps at Von’s. Maybe it’s Easter egg hunts with the children or mimosas at Easter brunch. And for many this year, it could just be an unusually rainy weekend day.
Whatever your plans are this Sunday, don’t forget the church service! Attending church on Easter can help remind you of the Gospel message–and if you have children, there are often special ministries for them.
To help you get there, we put together a list of seven Easter Sunday church services near La Jolla this year.
King’s Cross Church
More than some of the other church websites on this list, King’s Cross posted their Easter information front-and center. One note: it’s supposed to rain on Easter Sunday in the Pacific Beach area. So instead of having the Easter Service at Kate Sessions Park as originally planned, they’re moving the service indoors to their church location on Soledad Mountain Road. There will be a carnival with crafts, activities, food trucks, and carnival snacks after the 11 a.m. service at an indoor/outdoor location at the church. King’s Cross Church is located in Pacific Beach.

Barabbas Road Church
Located about 15 minutes from La Jolla Cove, Barabbas Road Church doesn’t care what you wear to church. According to their website: “On any given Sunday you will see dresses and suits to board shorts and flip flops.” You aren’t required to sing, and you don’t need to feel obligated to give any money. For visitors with kids, don’t worry; there’s a fully staffed children’s church. Barabbas Road began with about 10 people in a Clairemont storage room back in 2006 and has grown to the friendly congregation that it is today.

Lighthouse Bible Church
The Lighthouse Bible Church in Clairemont will offer two Resurrection Sunday worship services: one at 8:30 a.m. and one at 10:45 a.m. This church has been around since the late nineties and has been involved in planting several churches throughout California; there are Lighthouse BIble Churches in Los Angeles, Orange County, and even San Jose.

Grace Brethren Church
From a website publisher’s point of view, it’s difficult not to comment on the classic design of this church’s website. Yet there’s something extremely comforting about it. And rest assured that their Facebook page is current. Grace Brethren Church is located in Kearny Mesa, just a short drive from downtown La Jolla. According to their Facebook page, they’re having an Easter Sunday service this year at 10:30 a.m., with breakfast beforehand at 9:30 a.m. What should you expect during the worship service? From the website: “The SDGBC worship experience is best described as a family time. You will not be singled our as a visitor, but we must warn you that there are a lot of friendly people here who will make you feel very welcome!” A children’s service is provided.

Redeemer’s Grace Church
Looking for something unusual this Easter Sunday after brunch? Maybe something a little more athletic? In addition to their morning worship service, Redeemer Grace Church will be having something in the afternoon from 4 – 6 p.m. They call it “RGC Active”.” From their Facebook posting: “Join us for some exercise through sports such as basketball, ultimate frisbee, and more! It will be a great time to be active as well as to hear from God’s Word through a devotional! This week, we will be meeting at Doyle Park.” You can contact the church if you’d like more information; Doyle Park is located at 8175 Regents Rd.

Doxa Church
What does doxa mean? According to this church’s website, “Doxa means glory in the original language of the New Testament, and it’s His glory that we want to be all about as a church family.” Doxa is a little further of a drive from downtown La Jolla than most of the churches on this list, but we didn’t want to exclude them simply on the distance of the drive. The crew at Doxa have been active on social media all Passion Week. There’s a welcome team at the entrance and a thriving kids ministry, too. If you don’t mind the extra drive, you may find the fellowship worth it!

Gospel for Life
We almost didn’t include this church on the list because there’s so little information about it online. But if you’re looking for a smaller church experience near La Jolla this Easter Sunday, you might consider Gospel for Life. You’ll need to contact the church via their Facebook page or website for details such as where to go and at one time. It’s a bit of a treasure hunt, but if their doctrinal statements strike a chord with you, this church might interest you.
