Want to Volunteer to Help San Diego Flood Victims? Here’s Your Chance
If you want to volunteer and help San Diego flood victims who were hit hard by unprecedented storms this year, there will be two chances this weekend.
There will be two opportunities to volunteer to help San Diego flood victims — one on Saturday, June 15 and one on Sunday, June 16. Each volunteer opportunity lasts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, organizers of flood aid are especially looking for people who have experience with plumbing, roofing, electrical, or carpentry. Exact locations of the volunteer opportunities are sent after sign-up.
The goal of the volunteer opportunities is to finish building two homes. Residents who were hit hard by historic storms in January are still in the midst of recovering. More than that, although volunteers have been helping consistently basically every weekend, the approach of summer means there are now fewer volunteers to go around.
If you can’t volunteer or don’t have relevant experience, there are still a number of ways you can help. For example, there are some upcoming food distribution events that need volunteers, and local nonprofits are always seeking donations of food and other resources, as well as people to help pack and deliver said donations.
Back in January, unprecedented atmospheric river storms brought torrential rains to the San Diego region. The storms caused extensive flooding in many neighborhoods around San Diego, including in neighborhoods such as Mountain View and South Bay cities like Chula Vista.
