Learn to Upcycle Your Closet at Surf Lounge on March 14
Upcycling is a way to upgrade your closet without impacting the Earth — and you can learn how at Surf Lounge in mid-March.
If you’re unfamiliar with the term “upcycling,” it’s essentially a form of recycling. More specifically, upcycling refers to the act of repurposing or revamping old clothing or other items into a higher-quality, better-looking, or otherwise improved object.
On Friday, March 14, you can learn all the ins and outs of upcycling your clothing items at Surf Lounge in Pacific Beach. The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. through 9 p.m.
During the Upcycling Workshop, which is present by Kornelija Art, you’ll learn how to transform your existing clothing with fabric paint. This can include adding unique designs, creating and applying your own patches, and heat-setting materials so that your artwork becomes permanent — and washable.
As you might expect from an environmentally friendly upcycling workshop, the organizers recommend that you bring stained or lightly damaged holes to the event at Surf Lounge. If you don’t have any clothing that fits the bill, make sure to bring plain shirts, jeans, or any clothing items with a smooth surface.
The upcycling workshop at Surf Lounge is beginner-friendly, and includes a free PDF Upcycling Guide with everything you’ll learn during the event. Tickets start at $50, and you can buy them here.
