Here Are All the San Diego Athletes Competing in the Paris Olympics

The Paris Olympics are in full swing, and America’s Finest City is watching as San Diego athletes compete for the gold.

There are about two dozen athletes from San Diego County competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris this week. Although the Olympic Games kicked off last week, they’re scheduled to last until Aug. 11.

Some notable standouts on the list include:

  • Surfing: Oceanside native Caitlin Simmers is competing for Team USA in the surfing competition.
  • Skateboarding: There are many San Diego natives competing in skateboarding competitions for team USA, including Gavin Bottger, Tate Carew, Ruby Lilley, Tom Schaar, Bryce Wettstein, and Jagger Eaton.
  • Sport climbing: University of San Diego alumni Brooke Raboutou, who is representing Team USA in bouldering and lead climbing.
  • Canoe/Kayak: Nevin Harrison, 22, is a local athlete competing for Team USA in the Olympics this year.
  • Water Polo: Alex Bowen is competing for Team USA in the water polo category, and he’s a native of Santee.
  • Soccer: There are many San Diego soccer players competing in the games, including many from San Diego Wave FC, such as Naomi Girma and Jaedyn Shaw.
  • Volleyball: Two locals are competing in the Olympics this year in the volleyball category, including Garrett Muagututia of Oceanside and Chase Budinger of Encinitas.
