San Diego Mojo: Inside The City’s Latest Professional Sports Team

San Diego is getting a professional women’s volleyball team. Here’s everything you need to know about San Diego Mojo.

As a city known for having some of the best beaches in the entire country, volleyball is certainly a part of San Diego’s culture. Now, along with being one of the best beach activities for visitors and locals, volleyball is putting San Diego on the map for professional sports.

The team is officially slated to begin playing in February 2024 as part of the Pro Volleyball Federation, which is a nascent indoor volleyball league across the U.S.

In November, San Diego Mojo unveiled its official team logo, colors, and home stadium — Viejas Arena, which is home to San Diego basketball team The SDSU Aztecs.

The San Diego Mojo are one of seven teams across the U.S. in the Pro Volleyball Federation. The first PVF season will begin in January 2024 with 24 matches — 12 at home and 12 away.

The team was founded by Kerri Walsh Jennings, a three-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist. It is represented by a stylized osprey, which the team says represents inspiration because of “its strength, resilience, and mastery of the skies.”

San Diego Mojo will have their first match on Thursday, Feb. 1 against Atlanta Vibe in the Georgia city. The first home game at Viejas Arena will be against the Grand Rapids Rise on Friday, Feb. 23.

Starting Dec. 1, the team will begin taking deposits for season tickets for the 2024 season. Those interested will be able to reserve the best seats for $50 per seat.
