Fox Point Farms is the First ‘Agrihood’ to Land in San Diego
Fox Point Farms is a new project in Encinitas that seeks to combine agriculture, community, and delicious farm-to-table cuisine.
More specifically, Fox Point Farms is a two-acre organic regenerative farm in the Leucadia neighborhood of Encinitas. It’s also one of the first “agrihoods” in San Diego County.
If you’re unfamiliar with the term, “agrihoods” are essentially planned communities built around agriculture. Along with Fox Point Farms, there are two planned “agrihoods” in Oceanside and Poway, according to Eater San Diego.
In the case of Fox Point Farms, the newly opened community represents a unique way of living in Encinitas. The on-site farm grows food for several venues also located in the community, including a daytime cafe called Harvest and a 120-seat restaurant dubbed Haven Farm + Table, which is set to open on Aug. 10.
Haven Farm + Table will use organic ingredients grown on-site, and will be headed up by culinary director Alex Carballo. Carballo has a long history in the area, including serving as the executive chef of Stone Brewing, one of the best breweries in North County.
There are also plans for an on-site brewery using homegrown hops and other plants, as well as a coffee roastery and a community supported agriculture (CSA) program for residents.
In other words, Fox Point Farms is sure to offer a world of culinary delight for residents of its on-site apartments, cottages, and townhomes. Better yet, the farm-to-table restaurants, which are just short walks from the residences, use ingredients that are grown similarly close.
