Shred for a Cause at the 4th Annual Surf-Off Series in Mission Beach

Surfing is an essential part of San Diego culture, but at the upcoming Surf-Off Series, it’s also an amazing way to give back to your community.

The Surf-Off Series is a locally hosted and operated series of surf competitions that benefit local non-profit organizations. Now in its fourth year, the next iteration of the event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025 at San Fernando in Mission Beach.

Sign-ups for the surf contest are still open, and categories include:

  • Open Men Shortboard
  • Open Women Shortboard
  • Junior Boys Shortboard
  • Junior Girls Shortboard
  • Open Men Longboard
  • Open Women Longboard
  • Still Got It — Kinda (40+)
  • Push-In (All Ages)
  • FAM-SLAM
  • Alt Craft (Twins, Asyms, etc.)

Even if you don’t participate in the Surf-Off Series, there are still opportunities to give back. For example, you can volunteer to help set up, check in competitors, serve lunch, or take down the event.

Additionally, there will be an on-site raffle with gift cards to local restaurants, surf shops, and more. Both competitors and non-competitors will be able to participate in the raffle, and volunteers will receive an entry for free.

All proceeds for the event will fund local nonprofits like Urban Surf 4 Kids, which helps kids find healing and empowerment through surf therapy, and Autism Tree, which provides resources and other services for families and children on the autism spectrum. Since its founding, the Surf-Off Series has raised more than $18,000 for local organizations.
