Is There Snow in San Diego Today? What You Should Know
A powerful winter storm brought high winds and inches of rain to America’s Finest City, but is there snow in San Diego today?
Just a couple of weeks after a separate storm brought torrential rains and flooding to San Diego County, another winter storm prompted flood alerts and wind advisories throughout the region, according to FOX 5 San Diego.
With all of that rain and cooler temperatures, many people in the region might be asking if there is snow in San Diego today. The answer is not as straightforward as you might think.
First off, you need to know where to see snow in San Diego County. Most of the area doesn’t receive regular snowfall, but San Diego’s mountains and mountain regions typically do. Some of these regions include:
- Mount Laguna
- Palomar Mountain
- Julian, California
- Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
- Idyllwild
Luckily for those wanting to save an hour drive, many of these places have live-streamed webcams that let potential visitors check to see if there’s snow fall.
LaJolla.com did a cursory check of each of these webcams and found that there does not appear to be snow in Julian, California.
However, the webcam footage of both Mount Laguna and Palomar Mountain showed that there is at least some snow on the ground and on building rooftops. So, if you’re asking, “Is there snow in San Diego today?” — the answers is yes.
If you’re planning to head to the mountains to see snow, make sure that you practice safe driving, since road conditions are likely to be treacherous with the cold and rain. Also, make sure you check if chains are required in some areas.
This weekend might not be the last to see snow in San Diego County, either. With another atmospheric river storm bearing down on San Diego County this weekend, there is also the possibility for even more snow, rain, and winds.
