Catch an Exclusive Screening of Surf Doc ‘Bustin’ Down the Door’

Birds Surf Shed in San Diego will be hosting an exclusive, one-night-only screening of award-winning surf documentary Bustin’ Down the Door this month.

Bustin’ Down the Door is a 2008 documentary film that chronicles the true story of a group of young Australian and South African surfers who “risk everything to chase their dreams.” Set on Oʻahu’s North Shore in the winter of 1975, the film tracks the surfers’ aggressive new style, and how it sparked a revolution that led to modern professional surfing.

The film is narrated by Edward Norton and features a killer soundtrack with songs by Iggy Pop, Leonard Cohen, and David Bowie. Some of the surfers that it follows include world champions such as champions Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, Ian Cairns, Mark Richards, Shaun Tomson, and Peter “PT” Townend.

Along with the screening of Bustin’ Down the Door, attendees will also be able to hear directly from some of the surfing legends at the event. After the screening, there will be a live Q&A session with Rabbit, Cairns, Richards, Tomson, and PT.

The screening, which is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, takes place 50 years after the events chronicled in the film. It’ll happen at Bird’s Surf Shed, an offbeat surf store in San Diego. Tickets start at $20.

Bird’s Surf Shed is located at 1091 West Morena Boulevard near Mission Beach. For additional information or to purchase tickets, visit this link.
