Keep Your Local Surf Spot Clean at the Ocean Beach Cleanup
San Diego is known for having some of the best beaches in the country, but it takes the community to keep it that way. Do your part and meet new friends at this Saturday’s Ocean Beach cleanup.
Ocean Beach is a popular surfing spot in San Diego. Though, like many of the best San Diego beaches, it can quickly become littered with trash and other debris. That’s why San Diego Coastkeeper and the Surfrider Foundation partner to host beach cleanups across San Diego County.
Each first Saturday of the month, the two organizations hold a beach cleanup in both Ocean Beach and Oceanside. The cleanups offer attendees a chance to protect our local beaches, oceans, and waterways — and connect with other like-minded surfers, beach bums, and water lovers.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome at the event. Cleaning supplies are provided, though the organizers recommend that you bring your own reusable gloves, bags, and water bottles if you can. You won’t need anything else other than comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes.
Attending the Ocean Beach cleanup requires advanced registration, which you can do at this link. All attendees will also need to sign a liability waiver to participate.
The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. Generally, cleanups last about two hours in total.
