Travelers Rejoice: San Diego Airport Parking Gets Major Boost Ahead of Labor Day

If you’re planning on traveling to or from San Diego during Labor Day weekend, you’re in luck. New San Diego airport parking should ease congestion at the airport’s Terminal 1.

The new Terminal 1 parking will bring an additional 2,834 parking spaces to San Diego International for drivers to use, according to FOX 5 San Diego. There will also be designated spots for clean vehicles and electric vehicle charging.

Airport officials note that parking will cost $2.50 for 15 minutes, though there is a 10-minute grace period for travelers who turned into the airport parking structure by accident or are only using it for a quick drop-off. Full-day parking will cost $38.

Of course, airport officials still recommend that travelers plan ahead and keep some key travel tips in mind. Firstly, know that the busiest times at the airport are between 4 a.m and 6:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. to midnight. This is especially true for the upcoming Labor Day holiday in San Diego.

The revamp of Terminal 1 parking is just one part of an overhaul of the San Diego International Airport that will also include new gates, interior renovation, and a number of iconic local San Diego restaurants.

Construction at San Diego International’s Terminal 1 has been ongoing for a few years, but is expected to wrap up by mid-2028. The first phase of Terminal 1’s renovation, however, should be complete by summer 2025.

The cost of all new construction and renovations at San Diego International is upwards of $3.8 billion, and is being funded primarily by federal infrastructure grants.
