Genever and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are probably two things you’ve heard of but know nothing about. Genever is a type of gin made in the Netherlands from juniper and wheat. This Dutch liquor is obscure to some, but beloved by many. NFTs are minted digital images, sounds, videos, and, in some cases, artwork.
Botanica, a new bar from the Be Saha Hospitality group plans on combining these two esoteric passions. Opening in North Park on University Avenue by the early Fall, this bar aims to be a unique and classy establishment.
Be Saha is no stranger to esoteric beverages. They have also established businesses selling mezcal, the smoky cousin to tequila, and absinthe, the infamous beverage originally made from wormwood. Genever is their latest project and they are bringing it to San Diego in style.
The 48-seat bar is designed kind of like a speakeasy. It has a vibe of times gone by. The project is led by Amar Harrag, a native of France and University of San Diego graduate. He pulls from European traditions while modernizing and taking into account the culture of San Diego. With hot weather and all kinds of technology enthusiasts, Botanica is a great place to have a bright spirit and view some digital art.
