La Jolla Music Society Free Outdoor Concerts Return to The Conrad This Spring

The popular Wu Tsai QRT.yrd free concert series in La Jolla is returning to The Conrad this spring with a new series dubbed Local Voices.

The La Jolla Music Society first started the Wu Tsai QRT.yrd Concert Series in 2021. Since then, it has blossomed into a series of 10 concerts each spring and fall, engaging the La Jolla and San Diego community and bringing new audiences to The Conrad.

Starting in early April, the free outdoor concert series returns with Local Voices, which will feature native San Diego musicians of various genres. As the name suggests, most of the acts will feature a vocal element.

For example, on Friday, April 4, sibling duo Anna Lee Fleming and Willie Fleming will perform alongside their dad Bill Fleming as Finnegan Blue, a tribute to classic Americana. The band will play both toe-tapping originals and energetic takes on both traditional Bluegrass and Irish tunes as the first act in the free concert series at The Conrad.

  • Jazz band the Kahlil Childs Quartet on Friday, April 16
  • Jazz vocalist Leonard Patton on Friday, May 2
  • Jazz and R&B singer Helena Holleran on Friday, May 30
  • Sabrosas Latin Orchestra — the first all-female salsa band in San Diego — on Wednesday, June 11.

Additionally, the concert series will kick off with a special performance by Native American singer Blue Eagle Vigil of the Viejas band of Kumeyaay. Blue Eagle Vigil will perform traditional Bird Songs, which is a practice passed down through generations.
