Best Dispensary in San Diego in November 2024

Best Dispensary in San Diego in November 2024

What do you think of when you think of a San Diego dispensary? Today, you can walk into one of around 50 local recreational marijuana dispensaries and buy cannabis products. You can also have weed delivered to your doorstep through San Diego dispensary delivery services. If you’ve been in California for a while, you may remember what a long, strange trip it has been. (Yes, that’s both a Grateful Dead and a Hunter S. Thompson reference.)

Which San Diego Dispensary Should You Visit?

As far back as 1996, seriously ill patients in California have been permitted by state law to grow and use cannabis for “personal medical treatment” — as long as a licensed physician gave them the okay. But things didn’t really start going in the California legalization movement until around 2013. It was then that federal prosecutors were directed to take a hands-off approach in states like California where pot was legalized through state legislation, so long as cartels and minors weren’t involved. (This is an overly simplified summarization of a directive known as the “Cole memo,” but you get the idea.)

After that, it was only a matter of time before small medical dispensaries started popping up around town. In 2018, you were finally able to go into a recreational dispensary in San Diego and buy weed for personal use. That doesn’t mean there aren’t doctors who specialize in cannabis-related treatment, though. In fact, we recently published an article about medical marijuana doctors in San Diego.

But whether you’re looking for recreational marijuana, medical marijuana, or even just CBD, how do you find the best dispensary in San Diego? We’ve got a list for you here. Let’s not waste any more time talking about weed; let’s get you in touch with San Diego cannabis shops!

Tips for Visiting Dispensaries

We have a couple of “pro tips” for first-time dispensary shoppers. First, dispensaries are cash-only businesses. They have ATMs on the premises, but for a faster visit, bring cash with you. And second, many dispensaries have specials on different days of the week. For example, seniors might get a discount on a certain day of the week, or on other days there might be a discount on everything in the store.

To give you a better idea, we’ve included a list of the specials for Cannabist San Diego, the closest dispensary to downtown La Jolla, below.

Our Picks for Best Dispensary in San Diego

This dispensary donates to a lot of local causes including Feeding San Diego, Veteran News Network, and the Will Ferrell-affiliated “Cancer for College” foundation. Torrey Holistics is located in Sorrento Valley between the 5 and the 805, about five minutes from New English Brewing, a local brewery which also sells to-go beer and upon which we heaped much lavish praise in our article called A Beer Lover’s Guide to La Jolla. A Green Alternative

South Bay has it lucky in a lot of ways. Herb is plentiful and legal, unlike on the other side of the border which is literally just a few feet away from A Green Alternative. The lab-tested stash is examined thoroughly to ensure the highest quality. The aesthetic is a cross between a pharmacy and a coffee shop. There will not be long waits so 10 minutes is more than enough time to budget for your run to the border. If you want to avoid the crowds, AGA is your destination.
