La Jolla Fourth of July Fireworks? Here’s What to Know
Next week is Independence Day, which means there will be plenty of fireworks shows across San Diego County. But, what about La Jolla Fourth of July fireworks?
Although the La Jolla Cove fireworks were once a signature part of summer celebrations for the San Diego neighborhood, La Jolla has taken a quieter approach to the Fourth of July in recent years. That isn’t changing in 2024.
The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, in partnership with the LJ STEAM Foundation, has announced that they are bringing back the Fourth of July drone show over La Jolla Shores this year.
“Building on last year’s success, we are looking to elevate this year’s event and make it more spectacular than before,” said Bill Kellogg, president of the Beach & Tennis Club.
During the show, a fleet of 200 drones will soar hundreds of feet above the La Jolla shoreline and paint the night in mesmerizing patterns of light and color. The organizers say that the best views will be had at Kellogg Park, but the drone show will be visible from La Jolla Cove and the La Jolla Shores Hotel.
As far as why La Jolla chose to ditch fireworks for a drone show again this year, the community decided several years ago that drones were an appropriate alternative to lessen the harmful environmental impacts of fireworks.
The La Jolla Fourth of July drone light show is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.
