George’s At The Cove Celebrating 40 Years in La Jolla This Year

George’s At The Cove is celebrating 40 years as a staple restaurant in La Jolla with a series of exclusive chef dinners.

Most people in San Diego known about George’s At The Cove and its million-dollar view. For 40 years, the iconic restaurant has been serving up delicious California-inspired cuisine in downtown La Jolla. Fewer people, however, know about the restaurant’s story.

According to CBS 8, it all started when founder George Hauer fell in love with the property above La Jolla Cove. Initially a dark, cramped restaurant with no windows, George eventually transformed it into the multi-level dining outpost with unbeatable ocean views.

Over the years, the restaurant has been home to many celebrated chefs serving up iconic California cuisine, from Togarashi Crusted Rare Yellowtail to George’s Famous Soup, which is made with smoked chicken, broccoli, and black beans.

To celebrate 40 years, George’s At The Cove is hosting a number of alumni chef dinners on July 16, August 19, and October 15. Details below:

  • July 16 — Elizabeth Murray and Yolanda Santos
  • August 19 — Anthony Secviar
  • October 15 — Pendry San Diego Crew

You can make a reservation for the chef dinners on the restaurant’s website, georgesatthecove.com. The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and is located at 1250 Prospect St.

And, if you’d like to meet the man behind George’s At The Cove, CBS 8 reports that George often makes a “daily appearance” there, since he lives in La Jolla.
