How to Not Know: An Evening of Exploration With Simone Stolzoff & UC San Diego

In “How to Not Know,” acclaimed journalist and author Simone Stolzoff invites people to explore the transformative power of uncertainty. And this May, UC San Diego is inviting the community to dive into the topic that with him.

On Monday, May 18, the UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies and the UC San Diego Bookstore will host Stolzoff for a special First Edition event centered on his latest book, “How to Not Know.” The event is scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the UC San Diego campus in La Jolla.

During the event, Stolzoff will lead a conversation challenging the modern obsession with expertise self-optimization. In place of that, he proposes that embracing what we don’t know can lead to greater empathy, creativity, and authentic connection with other humans — all key elements of a healthy lifestyle.

Stolzoff is a journalist and author who writes about the intersection of work, meaning, and identity. He is known for his previous book, “The Good Enough Job,” which argues that work has replaced community and purpose to become an outsized part of modern human identity.

The event will marks a significant addition to the university’s cultural calendar, and promises a blend of warmth, wit, and keen social insight. Attendees will hear a refreshing perspective on success and purpose that will, hopefully, allow them to embrace being human.

The event is open to the public, but registration is required in advance. For more information or to RSVP, visit the UC San Diego website.
