How to Catch the Alex Morgan’s Last Game in San Diego
Renowned U.S. soccer player Alex Morgan has announced she is retiring, and her very last game is scheduled in San Diego this weekend.
Alex Morgan is the U.S. National Team’s forward, and is also the captain of the San Diego soccer team Wave Futbol Club (FC). In a social media post Thursday, she announced her upcoming retirement.
” have so much clarity about this decision, and I am so happy to be able to finally tell you,” Morgan said in the video. “It has been a long time coming, and this decision wasn’t easy, but at the beginning of 2024 I felt in my heart and soul that this was the last season that I would play soccer.”
Morgan is a two-time World Cup champion, as well as an Olympic gold medalist. She ranks fifth in U.S. Women’s National Team history with 123 goals in 224 caps. However, she was left off of the USWNT 2024 roster despite starting for the team in the spring.
Lucky for residents and visitors to San Diego, her role on the San Diego Wave FC means that those in the area this weekend will be able to catch Alex Morgan’s last game.
The last match is currently scheduled for 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego. During the match, San Diego Wave FC will host North Carolina Courage. As of writing, tickets are still available, but they may go quickly.
The last game for Alex Morgan won’t be the last time that soccer will be played at Snapdragon Stadium, which is also home to the San Diego Aztecs. San Diego will soon be getting a Major League Soccer team that will call Snapdragon its home.
Additional information and tickets for the match on Sunday can be found on the San Diego Wave FC website.
