Sun Diego Boardshops AM SLAM Finale Returns to Mission Beach This Saturday
Surf, skate, and beach vibes are colliding in Mission Beach this weekend thanks to the Sun Diego Boardshops AM SLAM, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17.
The AM SLAM, scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, includes both surf and skate contests, as well as the Bash at the Beach music festival. The event takes place at Mission Beach, as well as nearby Belmont Park.
Put on by local boardshop Sun Diego, the event is an encapsulation of some of San Diego’s favorite outdoor activities.
The surf contest will kick off at 9 a.m. and feature local surfers across 10 different youth and amateur divisions on Mission Beach. The skateboard contest, scheduled for 11 a.m., is a Pro-Am, best-trick contest with a $4,000 prize — and it’ll take place on a custom Keen Ramps obstacle crafted from a 1960s boat.
Although surf signups are now closed, skate entry for the contest opens at 10 a.m. on the day of the event and costs $50.
Along with the action spot vibes, the free-to-attend festival will also include live music presented by Roark and a vendor village with games, giveaways, and freebies from more than 50 brands.
