This San Diego Hotel Was Voted ‘Hotel of the Year’ in North America & Europe
If you want to stay in one of the best hotels in North America or Europe, the Lafayette Hotel in San Diego has been voted “Hotel of the Year” by Esquire.
Located in San Diego’s hip North Park neighborhood, The Lafayette Hotel is a historic property that has long had a reputation of being a party hotspot. Recently, the hotel completed a $31 million renovation that brought it into a new era.
Although beloved by locals, the Lafayette is now being recognized on a national — and even international — scale. Esquire Magazine recently voted the property “Hotel of the Year” in both North America and Europe.
If you decide to stay at the Lafayette, which is one of the best San Diego hotels with a pool, expect a thoroughly eclectic vibe. As far as the decor, Esquire had this to say: “Everything clashes, but it all works.”
“Unlike most hotels, the Lafayette does not feel as if it were made by committee,” the magazine wrote. “No corporate board or focus group is going to tell you it’s a good idea to reassemble an abandoned Mexican church for the interior of an on-site Mexican restaurant or to build a two-lane bowling alley in your basement bar in homage to the final scene in There Will Be Blood.”
As far as amenities, the Lafayette boasts many. There’s the aforementioned Mexican restaurant, Quixote, as well as an old-fashioned diner, a New Orleans-themed lobby bar, and a poolside bar that marries Italian coastal cocktails with Tiki favorites.
In other words, the Lafayette is deserving of its ranking on Esquire’s list. And, along with all the other reasons why America’s Finest City is a top travel destination, it’s well worth planning to stay there on your next San Diego vacation.
