‘Tis The Season to Go Tidepooling in La Jolla

Looking for a thoroughly San Diego way to celebrate the winter holiday season? Tidepooling in La Jolla is just the thing.

Alongside surfing, beachside yoga, or eating great Mexican food, tidepooling is a quintessential San Diego activity. And, luckily for those who want a little beach with their Christmas festivities, it just so happens that winter is the best season to go tidepooling in La Jolla.

Heading to the La Jolla tidepools during a negative low tide between December and March is often the best bet if you’re looking to see the most marine life. Best of all, the folks over at Sea to Shore Explorers have plotted out a great time to explore the La Jolla tidepools — just in time for holiday celebrations.

From 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, Sea to Shore Explorers will be hosting a La Jolla tidepooling session for curious kids, ocean-loving adults, or those who are just looking to a different kind of holiday tradition.

There will be a marine biologist at the event to guide you through your La Jolla tidepool adventures. The organizers say it’ll be an oceanic version of a menorah or Christmas tree: small pools full of “unexpected lights, colors, and surprises.”

Tickets to the adventure starting at $23.18. You won’t need to bring anything except some cozy layers, closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting wet, and a sense of adventure. Dress warm, because even San Diego weather in December can be nippy.
