USA Surfing Championships and Team Trials Scheduled for June in Oceanside
From June 7 through June 12, some of the best surfers in the country will gather in Oceanside for the USA Surfing Championships in 2026.
USA Surfing, for the unfamiliar, is the official national governing body for the sport of surfing in the United States. It is recognized by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and is responsible for selecting, training, and fielding both Olympic and International USA surfing teams.
In other words, it’s your opportunity to see some of the best surfers that the U.S. has to offer compete in your own backyard.
The USA Surfing Championships, which are held annually, are both a surfing competition and an opportunity for wave-riders to showcase their skill and potentially qualify for surfing on a professional team. This year, the championships are scheduled for June 7 through June 12 at various beaches in Oceanside.
A rough schedule of events can be seen below:
- June 7: Para Surf
- June 8 – June 10: Longboard
- June 11: Adult Divisions Shortboard
- June 11: Stand-up Paddleboard Surf
- June 12: Stand-up Paddleboard and Prone Distance, Tech Races & Age Group Races
Importantly, the championships have been approved in collaboration with the USOPC to “maximize performance readiness and qualification pathway” for various International Surfing Association (ISA) and Pan American Surf Association (PASA) teams.
While Oceanside is the home of USA Surfing’s training grounds, San Diego is well-known for being a surfing hotspot. In fact, local legendary surf spot Trestles Beach will host the surfing portions of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The USA Surfing Championships are meant to be qualifying events for professional surfers, but they’re also completely free to attend and open to the public for spectators. So, if you want to see some great surfers in San Diego, mark your calendars.
