Which San Diego Beach is Hosting Olympics Surfing?

The 2028 Summer Olympics are coming to Southern California, and a local San Diego beach has been selected as the location for surfing.

Last month, the California Department of Parks and Recreation announced that the legendary Trestles Beach was selected as the site for surfing in the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Trestles is a legendary spot for surfing in San Diego and elsewhere in Southern California. It’s part of San Onofre State Beach, which borders Orange County but is technically part of San Diego County.

According to California State Parks, the beach is known for consistent and high-quality waves that attract both beginner surfers and professionals alike. In a normal year, San Onofre State Beach attracts nearly 2.5 million visitors. During the Olympics, some of the best surfers in the world will descend on the already world-class surf spot.

“This is a chance to introduce the world to one of California’s stunning locations,” said Gloria Sandoval, the California Natural Resources Agency’s Deputy Secretary for Access. “When people see what’s possible at a world-class beach like Lower Trestles, it opens the door for more people to connect with nature, with community, and with the joy of being outside.”

Along with providing surfers something to look forward to, the San Diego Olympics event is also expected to bring a massive boost to the local economy. The games will bolster job creation, infrastructure improvements, and expanded opportunities for local businesses.
