Opening in September, the latest project from the chefs behind the University Heights brunch restaurant Breakfast & Bubbles as well as the Italian spot RustiCucina is called Zama. Zama is a fusion restaurant focused on the influence that Japanese cuisine has on Latin America.
While this combination may sound strange, it is far from it. The 4,000-square foot space includes a full sushi bar. At the helm of the sushi bar is Tayuka Kudo, the famous chef known for working at restaurants like Nobu and Lumi.
In addition to this extravagant and elegant sushi bar, the restaurant will serve dishes from across Latin America including Mexican aguachile and Peruvian tiradito. With these delicious menu items are cocktails inspired from places around the world.
The beautiful location was designed by Tucker Sadler Architects. This company has been behind amazing design projects around San Diego. They designed Portside Pier at the Embarcadero, AC Hotel Gaslamp, the San Diego Central Library, and many more. The theme is inspired by the tropical rainforest, with wood and a natural green color scheme.
After dinner, the restaurant transforms into a nightclub. At Zama, there will be an in-residence DJ. Guests are invited to stay after dinner, enjoy exotic fruit cocktails, and dance the night away. Zama is the perfect bar-restaurant for your next big evening out.
