With a mixture of pride and good old-fashioned hustle, 20-year-old David Kunz turned a family chore into a thriving business called Coastal Clarity.

How it started
Kunz, the owner and founder of Coastal Clarity, was born in Cashiers, North Carolina, but spent much of his adolescent years in Redding, California. He started cleaning windows as a family chore, but that all changed when a neighbor noticed his work — and asked him to clean their window.
“They loved the work and, as soon as I realized there were people out there who would pay for me for window cleaning, it was game on,” Kunz said.
Kunz, who was in 10th grade at the time, began making flyers to pass out in his neighborhood. His business only grew from there.
“During junior year, I started working with another established business in the area to learn how to run a business from an owner’s point of view,” he said. “Because of this experience, I was able to grow both my business knowledge while boosting my actual cleaning skills.”
Kunz continued working on his window cleaning business through the summer after his senior year. When an opportunity came to move to San Diego, Kunz jumped at the chance.
For the first year-and-a-half of living in San Diego, Kunz used his pressure washing and window cleaning business as a side hustle. Over time, he was able to grow his clientele. And, now, Coastal Clarity has become his full-time job and his main source of income.
How it’s going
Years after its humble origins, Kunz’s Coastal Clarity business is well-known for being a quality and trusted cleaning service for both residential and commercial properties across San Diego.
