Michelin-Recommended Tacos El Franc Coming to San Diego

One of the most famous taco shops in Baja California, Tacos El Franc, has announced plans to expand to San Diego County by early next year.

Located in just five minutes across the border in Tijuana, Tacos El Franc was recognized by the Michelin Guide Mexico this year. It first opened in 1996, and has amassed a huge local following on both sides of the border.

If you’ve never been to Baja California but the same sounds familiar, it’s because the iconic taco shop was featured in an episode of the popular Netflix series “Taco Chronicles: Cross the Border.”

Although many taco fans cross the border to taste the amazing offerings at the taco stand, San Diego residents and visitors will soon be able to eat at the taco stand without worrying about the best time to travel to Baja.

According to Eater San Diego, the iconic taco stand will soon open a location at the Westfield Plaza Bonita in National City in early 2025.

Frequent visitors and residents of San Diego undoubtedly know all about authentic Mexican-style tacos, and Tacos El Franc serves up a classic selection. On the menu, you’ll find carne asada, adobada, suadero, and lengua tacos served on freshly hand-made tortillas.

There are also quesadillas, mulitas, and a range of different toppings and sides available.

The Tijuana-born stand is not the only Mexican restaurant recognized by the Michelin Guide in San Diego. In fact, there will soon be another option for tacos with a Michelin pedigree at Westfield UTC.
