Blue Whale Cafe Brings Atlantic Charm to La Jolla
There’s a Blue Whale in La Jolla, and it’s bringing delicious brunch, coffee drinks, and a beachside Atlantic vibe to La Jolla.
If you haven’t already guessed, the Blue Whale we’re talking about is actually a charming cafe and brunch restaurant located in downtown La Jolla. It opened late last year at 834 Kline St.
The Blue Whale lives up to its name. According to the San Diego Reader, the cafe is located in a breezy white cottage — actually a converted house — in the Village, and incorporates a touch of California boho-surfer style with beachy Atlantic charm.
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of delicious brunch options made with locally sourced ingredients, including breakfast sandwiches and burritos, ube pancakes, classic French toast, avocado toast, and chicken & waffles.
There are also build-your-own superfood bowls, vegan and vegetarian options, and other healthful offerings.
True to its Atlantic-meets-Pacific vibe, lunch and dinner options at the Blue Whale cafe include both a lobster roll with chive aioli and crispy garlic, as well as a California burrito made with marinated rib-eye, and crispy French fries.
You’ll also find a variety of cafe drinks at the Blue Whale, including “functional” adaptogenic options like a Magic Matcha tea made with a proprietary blend of Lion’s Mane mushroom and a Moonlight Latte crafted with a laundry list of different herbs and spices, such as nutmeg, ginger, clove, cinnamon, and chamomile.
There are also classic coffees like flat whites, cold brews, teas, and a variety of different smoothie options made with fresh fruit and vegetables.
All in all, the cafe may soon land on our list of must-try breakfast and brunch options in La Jolla.
The Blue Whale La Jolla is open daily from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m.
