Celebrating 20 Years of the Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon

The Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon is an annual event that combines two cornerstones of San Diego culture: surfing and dogs.

Hosted by the Helen Woodward Animal Center each year, the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon is a family-friendly event with plenty of good vibes and paw-sitive fun for pet lovers of all stripes. Whether you have a furry surfer in the family, or you just want to soak up the good vibes, the event is free to attend.

This year, the 20th annual Surf-a-Thon is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Del Mar Dog Beach, which is also known as North Beach.

Along with the main attraction of surf dogs surfing, the event will also feature a costume contest for four-legged attendees, prizes, and vendors.

Best of all, the event isn’t just a good time. It’s an opportunity to raise both awareness and funding for orphan pets and other pet services at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

If your dog has some surfing skills, you can sign them up to surf in the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon contest at this link. The Helen Woodward Animal Center is also offering dog surf lessons on Sunday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 10.
