Martinelli’s 1868 Hard Cider Hits the La Jolla Area for National Cider Month

October is National Cider Month, and to celebrate, Martinelli’s is returning to its roots with 1868 Hard Cider — now available throughout San Diego County.
You’re likely familiar with Martinelli’s for its ubiquitous sparking cider. However, you might not know that the company actually got its start in the 1800s as a maker of delicious hard ciders. During Prohibition, Martinelli’s quickly ditched its hard cider offerings and pivoted to non-alcoholic juices and ciders.

Last year, Martinelli’s brought back its hard cider options for good. The rollout began with regional availability in Northern California, but as of October 2025, the hard cider is now available in San Diego area grocery stores — including in La Jolla.
The range of ciders are California originals made with 100% U.S. grown and fresh-pressed apples. Martinelli’s currently offers a few different options:
- 1868 Hard Cider: A blend of Newtown Pippin and West Coast apples, described as crisp and fresh.
- Imperial 1868: A bolder option made with Newtown Pippin apples, described as more intense and assertive.
- Mango Hard Cider: A blend of refreshing mango and apple.
- Berry Blush Cider: A base of fresh-pressed apples with rich dark berries and a touch of cranberry for a festive option.
According to Martinelli’s, the new ciders are available at select Albertsons, Stater Bros, Gelson’s Markets, BevMo!, and Total Wine stores in the La Jolla area. To find a store near you, check out the 1868 hard cider website.
