Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum Hosts Ikigai Wellness Retreat This Month

For wellness enthusiasts looking for a serene way to spend a Saturday evening, consider this your invitation to the Ikigai Wellness Retreat at Balboa Park’s Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum.

Inspired by the Japanese concept of ikigai, which roughly translates to “a reason for being,” the retreat promises an evening of wellness, community, and Zen ambiance that is sure to harmonize your body, mind, and spirit.

Scheduled from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, the Ikigai Wellness Retreat will be set against the backdrop of the serene Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. The retreat will feature a carefully curated schedule of group classes, workshops, and wellness activities for participants, including:

  • Dynamic movement classes, including gentle yoga classes and tai chi
  • Holistic guidance, such as herbal medicine guidance and Ayurveda consultations
  • Mystical exploration with Soul Compass and aura readings
  • Creative connection that will include mindful journaling and Japanese craft-making workshops

As the evening draws to a close, participants are invited to take part in a closing group sound meditation.

General admission includes access to all group classes, the Japanese Friendship Garden museum grounds, and a dedicated outdoor refreshment lounge in the lower garden. An optional Enlightenment Pass offers an additional wellness bag and an elevated healing service, such as acupuncture, cupping therapy, restorative facials, or detox massages.
