La Jolla Woman’s Club Celebrates 110th Anniversary of Iconic Building

The La Jolla Woman’s Club will soon celebrate the 110th anniversary of its iconic clubhouse building in the heart of La Jolla.

The clubhouse, which is located in downtown La Jolla just a block from the ocean, was first built in 1914 by renowned architect Irving Gill. Since then, it has served as a cornerstone of the La Jolla Woman’s Club’s mission — and a picturesque venue for special events of all kinds.

According to SDNews.com, the celebration for the clubhouse will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4. It will be an elegant and extravagant evening that pays homage to the cultural, architectural, historic, and social significance of the building, and the club itself.

If you’re not familiar, the La Jolla Woman’s Club has been an institution in the neighborhood since it was founded. It provides social and educational content, as well as other programming, to women across San Diego County. As of writing, it has dozens of members.

Notably, the club is just one part of the legacy of Ellen Browning Scripps, who was a founding member.

Members of the community are encouraged to join the La Jolla Woman’s Club in celebrating the clubhouse on Oct. 4. Items on the agenda include a gourmet dinner, a DJ with dancing, and a silent auction.

Tickets start at $110 for members of the club, and cost $200 for non-members.
