The 40th Annual Oceanside Longboard Surf Contest is This Weekend
The annual Oceanside Longboard Surf Contest is this weekend, and it’s officially the 40th iteration of the multi-day surfing extravaganza.
Each August, surfers from all over the world gather for the annual event, which combines a longboard surf classic with a beach festival and party in Oceanside. Hosted by the Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club, the contest will feature divisions for men and women, as well as amateurs and professional alike.
This year, the Oceanside Longboard Surf Contest is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 8 through Sunday, Aug. 10 at the Oceanside Pier.
Don’t mistake the festivity for trivialness, though. The competition out in the water is fierce, and gives both professional and amateur surfers a chance to show off their skills. The beach party, by contrast, is a laid-back and family friendly atmosphere for both spectators and participants alike.
There will be a variety of vendors selling and showcasing unique products, and live music at the Oceanside bandshell will provide entertainment all weekend long. This year, musical acts include DJ Glenn, Oside Rockers, Tin Cans, Jettee, and John Mobias.
Along with the surf contest, vendors, and music, the three-day festival will also include the opportunity to win a custom, hand-shaped surfboard from Michael Surfboards through a donation-based raffle.
