Fans of the Hulu comedy-drama series will undoubtedly recognize the name Schmackary’s. But although the cookies are name-dropped in the show, the bakery that makes them is actually a real-life business.
More than that, according to Eater, the viral cookies from “Only Murders in the Building” are set to arrive in San Diego sometime in the near future. Reportedly, San Diego resident Sharian Lott is currently working to identify a storefront where for the first Schmackary’s on the West Coast.
The appearance of the cookies in “Only Murders in the Building” isn’t Schmackary’s first brush with show business. Founded by aspiring actor Zachary Schmahl, the original Schmackary’s bakery is located in the Theatre District in New York City.
In fact, around New York, Schmackary’s is well-known as “the official cookie of Broadway.” More than that, the bakery often creates special edition cookies that tie in with major stage productions.
