WATCH: Video of Dolphins off San Diego coast goes viral
A video of a pod of dolphins playing and leaping through the air in the waters off the coast of San Diego has gone viral, racking up millions of views.
The video, which was shot by local company Gone Whale Watching, shows dolphins performing incredible aerial acrobatics near San Diego. Photographer Erica Sackrison told CBS 8 that it almost felt like the dolphins “were doing Olympic-style jumps, like they were just all trying to be like Simone Biles and just touch the sky and come down.”
According to Gone Whale Watching, the conditions along the San Diego coastline are currently ideal for whale, shark, and dolphin sightings. In recent months, the team has seen an influx of aquatic creatures in the waters.
Tour guides with the whale watching company suggest that the beautiful weather and clear waters are making sightings much easier, but added that there is likely a boom in local squid populations — a favorite food source for both great white sharks and dolphins.
For the most part, the dolphins and sharks stay relatively far away from San Diego beaches, which means that you’ll probably need to go boating or on a whale watching tour to see them. If you do happen to have access to a boat, Gone Whale Watching advises that you keep your speed down to a minimum because “you don’t know what might be just beneath the surface.”
