Westfield UTC Flood: Brown Water Partially Floods Mall
There was a small Westfield UTC mall flood as brown water filled some portions of the shopping mall near La Jolla.
Patrons shopping at the mall Wednesday morning noted water seeping into walkways and shops, with some areas seeing inches of standing brown water, according to local news outlet SanDiegoVille.
Although the source of the flooding remains unclear, the Westfield UTC said that the flood was likely caused by a “major water main failure” near Building H3.
“Stores impacted are from J Crew around to Lady M. Our crews are working quickly to reopen the common area and anticipate that being completed in the next 10 minutes,” the mall said in an email to tenants.
The Westfield UTC flood, although not widespread, has caused several affected stores in the area to close temporarily as cleanup efforts began. Shoppers at the mall at the time of the flood noted that some stores were evacuated as the water began seeping inside.
As of writing, Westfield UTC has not issued a public statement about the flood, its impact or damages, or its cause.
