Two San Diego Areas Voted ‘Best Cities to Live in America’

Everyone knows that San Diego is known as “America’s Finest City,” but a new report suggests that two local cities are among the best in America to live.

School ranking and distribution site Niche recently analyzed 230 cities across the U.S. to determine the absolute best places to live. Although San Diego isn’t shy about proclaiming itself to be “America’s Finest City,” it did not rank first on the list per Niche’s analysis.

On the other hand, two San Diego area cities ranked in the top 100 best cities to live in America.

San Diego itself ranked number 52 with a solid A grade. According to the review site, San Diego boasts amazing public schools, outdoors activities, weather, diversity, nightlife, and health and fitness opportunities.

“Living in San Diego offers residents an urban suburban mix feel and most residents rent their homes. In San Diego there are a lot of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks,” the company said.

One San Diego County city actually ranked higher than San Diego on the list. Carlsbad, California, located in San Diego’s North County, came in at number 23.

Carlsbad ranked highly because of its schools, nightlife, diversity, weather, family friendliness, and because of the wealth of outdoor activities available — including the best hikes near Carlsbad.

If you’re curious about what city beat out both of the Southern California gems, it was Colonial Village, a neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia.

As far as the methodology, Niche based its rankings on factors like crime, housing trends, employment statistics, diversity, weather, and more. San Diego, of course, ranks relatively low because of the high cost and low availability of housing — and the fact that, by some metrics, it’s one of the most expensive places to live in the U.S.
