Here’s Your Chance to Help Prevent Child Abuse Across the Country with ASPCC
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we’re choosing to highlight an amazing organization doing national work to protect and support children: the American Society for the Positive Care of Children (ASPCC).
ASPCC is an organization dedicated to preventing child neglect, abuse, and mistreatment through family-strengthening strategies. The organization advocates for the prevention of child abuse and hopes to raise awareness of the impacts of childhood experiences. It’s a national organization that, although based locally, does work across the US.
For National Child Abuse Prevention Month, ASPCC is currently in the midst of a month-long campaign that seeks to reframe child abuse prevention as a community responsibility rooted in compassion, education, and connection. That way, parents across the nation can set up their children for success.
To that end, the organization is hoping to equip parents and families with the evidence-based tools, skills, and resources necessary to build their confidence and capacity as caregivers. Parts of the campaign include:
- Promoting scientifically backed parenting tools
- Encouraging families to ask for help from communities
- Reducing the stigma around parenting stress
- Sharing protective factors and strategies that reduce child maltreatment
- Raising $10,000 to expand parenting resource offerings
Additionally, ASPCC is also championing the cause of child welfare with a call for nominations for their Dr. Ann Martens Champion for Children Award. The award seeks to celebrate individuals across the country who “make extraordinary contributions to the health and well-being of children.”
If you’d like to support the ASPCC on its mission, you can do so at multiple levels. With a gift or donation of any amount, you can help sponsor a parent’s access to crucial resources and educational content. Even small donations can create a “ripple effect” of healing and child abuse prevention.
