“Taste What You Hear” at this One of a Kind Concert & Wine Tasting Series
Mainly Mozart’s new Sommelier Concertmaster Series will feature top artists from the Philadelphia Orchestra, Dallas Symphony and LA Phil in a unique concert experience.
This one-of-a-kind classical music and wine event promises to let you “taste what you hear”, as top violinists (or “concertmasters”) collaborate with wine experts to connect the music performed to the perfect glass of wine. The musicians and the sommeliers will discuss the connection between the wine and the performance between each piece of music.
The first ever Sommelier Concertmaster Series will open this Fall in San Diego at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club and each concert will feature top musicians from a different orchestra: Philadelphia Orchestra, Dallas Symphony and the LA Phil. The series is presented by Mainly Mozart, best known for its annual Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival, home to the largest gathering of concertmasters and principal players in the United States.
“There’s such a rich history and depth of feeling that exists with classical music,” said Mainly Mozart CEO Nancy Laturno on developing the series. “It is a uniquely emotive art form. Through the Sommelier Concertmaster Series, we believe that we are offering San Diegans a sensory experience that they will never forget.”
The series opens Saturday, November 16, with a string trio led by Philadelphia Orchestra concertmaster David Kim, performing works by Beethoven, Dohnanyi, and Handel. They will be paired with sommelier Rafael Peterson – former Wine Director of Born and Raised and Dining Room Captain of ADDISON.
The series continues on January 11, with Dallas Symphony Concertmaster Alexander Kerr joined by Dallas Symphony co-concertmaster Nathan Olson and pianist Anton Nel, performing works by Brahms, Mozart and Moszkowski. They will be partnering with expert sommelier Gabriela Gaeta-Ninet, the first person from Mexico to achieve the title of “French Wine Scholar with Highest Honors.”
The new series will close on February 8, with a concert showcasing Los Angeles Philharmonic Concertmaster Martin Chalifour accompanied by pianist Steven Vanhauwaert featuring works by Dvorak, Brahms, Ravel and more. They will be partnering with Marino Monferrato, official Maître D’hôtel of Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen.”
Each Sommelier Concertmaster Series evening will begin with an hour-long wine and appetizer reception followed by an intermission-free concert. Seating will be at tables-of-four with a limited number of individual seats, with tickets ranging from $125 to $500 per concert.
Culinary Concerto Culinary Director and Executive Producer Chef Claudia Sandoval, MasterChef winner and Judge, is coordinating with the sommeliers and wineries.
