If two of your favorite things are dogs and surfing, then the 21st Annual Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon might just be the perfect event for you.
Hosted by the Helen Woodward Animal Center each year, the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon is a family-friendly event with plenty of good vibes and paw-sitive fun for pet lovers of all stripes. Whether you have a four-legged surfer in the family or you just want to soak up the good vibes, the event is completely free to attend.
This year, the 21st annual Surf-A-Thon is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Del Mar Dog Beach, which is also known as North Beach.
Along with the main attraction of surf dogs surfing, the event will also feature a costume contest for four-legged attendees, an interactive agility course, and the beachside BARKet Place, which will include vendors showcasing products for all of your furry family members. Top dogs will even move on to compete in the ultimate “Best-In-Surf” finals.
Best of all, the event isn’t just a good time. It’s an opportunity to raise both awareness and funding for pets in need at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
If your dog has some surfing skills and wave experience, you can sign them up to surf in the 2026 Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon contest over at the Helen Woodward Animal Center website.
