La Jolla Jewel Award: Here’s Your Chance to Nominate a Property

If you think you know a property that would be a great fit for a La Jolla Jewel Award, you now have the chance to nominate it this month!

The Jewel Awards honor and celebrate faithfully restored or rehabilitated properties around La Jolla. They’re sponsored by La Jolla Historical Society’s Landmark Group, which is focused on preserving and commemorating the neighborhood’s unique history and architecture.

And, now through July 20, you can nominate a property in La Jolla for the Jewel awards.

Specific properties around La Jolla may be nominated by owners, architects, contractors, or others. While specific properties don’t need to be designated as historic, historic preservation or rehabilitation standards are used in nominations.

To submit a property, you’ll need to provide photographs, address, any historic names, architectural style, date completed, original owner, and other information. Additionally, submissions should also include information on why the structure is important in the community.

For context, the 2023 winners of the La Jolla Jewel Awards include Paradisaea, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and several residential homes in La Jolla.

The Historical Society’s Board of Directors will select the La Jolla Jewel Award winners, which will then be announced at a private celebration later in the year.

If you’re not familiar with the La Jolla Historical Society, the organization also operates a museum in La Jolla at 7846 Eads Avenue in a quaint beach cottage that happened to be one of the first homes built in the area.
