New Hotel Del Coronado Bar & Smokehouse Coming to This Historic Building
A new Hotel Del Coronado bar will soon land at the historic hotel, bringing guests Prohibition-era cocktails alongside barbecue cuisine and smoked meats in an unlikely location.
The Smokehouse & Bar at the Laundry, as the name suggests, will be located in the Hotel Del Coronado’s laundry building. The Coronado building was actively used as a laundry facility from 1920 until 2018 — and was recently renovated as part of a suite of expansions and updates.
According to Eater San Diego, the new Hotel Del Coronado bar will feature smoked meats and vegetables in a casual setting. Expert smokers will cook the food at an on-site food truck and smoker, but guests will order the food from wait staff.
Options on the Smokehouse & Bar at the Laundry’s menu will include the following:
- Poutine with pulled pork and smoked cheese curds.
- Smoked brisket and pork ribs
- Jalapeno sausage
- Smoked vegetables
- Mac and cheese
- And more!
The Smokehouse & Bar at the Laundry will also feature cocktails inspired by the Prohibition era, as well as beer and wine. (You can expect plenty of locally brewed beer, so check out our guide to San Diego breweries before you go.)
The Laundry building was built in 1919, but the Hotel Del Coronado expansion has carefully kept era-appropriate decor such as wood and brick in its 2021 overhaul. The original laundry conveyor system will also remain, and the Hotel Del Coronado bar will feature a historic wooden bar built in the 1880s.
As far as where you’ll eat your food, the Smokehouse & Bar at the Laundry will feature indoor seating, outdoor lawn seating, and a pair of private dining rooms for those special occasions.
The new Hotel Del Coronado bar is slated to open to the public in mid-July. When it does open, it will serve dinner daily from 4 p.m.
