Firefighters Put Out La Jolla Restaurant Fire

A fire broke out at an Italian restaurant in La Jolla on Sunday, though firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze.

According to local media reports, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to calls of a La Jolla restaurant fire around 6:35 a.m. on Sunday. The restaurant itself was Marisi La Jolla, located on the intersection of Herschel and Wall in downtown La Jolla.

Reportedly, firefighters were able to detect the fire by using a thermal camera. They found a hot wall, and were quickly able to open up the wall and douse the flames around 20 minutes after arriving on the scene.

On Sunday morning, Marisi La Jolla said that they were going to be closed for the remainder of Sunday and Monday, undoubtedly due to the fire.

Luckily, no injuries were reported. Additionally, firefighters were able to put out the fire before it spread to other buildings or damaged any upstairs apartments.

As of writing, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department is investigating the cause of the La Jolla restaurant fire. At this point, their best guess is that it was the result of an electrical issue.

Marisi La Jolla is a relatively new restaurant located in the San Diego neighborhood. The authentic Italian restaurant first opened in June 2022. Last September, it tapped a new executive chef to lead its culinary direction.
