Where to Watch Fourth of July Fireworks in La Jolla and San Diego This Year
There are no longer fireworks in La Jolla (LaJolla.com) for Fourth of July, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of ways to celebrate Independence Day in 2026.
This year officially marks the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which formally declared the United States a free and independent country. As you might expect, many people in San Diego are beyond are looking for ways to celebrate.
In La Jolla, however, environmental regulations and permitting issues mean that there won’t be La Jolla Cove 4th of July fireworks. However, here are some alternative fireworks near La Jolla you can check out this year:
- Big Bay Boom: The largest and most famous fireworks show in San Diego by far. The Big Bay Boom features a stunning and grand display of fireworks launched from multiple barges in San Diego Bay. The show is expected to start at 9 p.m.
- San Diego County Fair July 4th Fireworks: If you’re interested in celebrating Independence Day a bit closer to North County, the San Diego County Fair is a great venue. Fireworks here start at 9 p.m. at the Del Mar Racetrack, and the best part is that you get easy access to rides, fair food, and more.
- Oceanside Fireworks Show: Want to see fireworks twice? You can. Oceanside is planning on hosting a fireworks show on Wednesday, July 3 at 9 p.m. at the SoCal Soccer Complex to celebrate its official incorporation as a city, as well as Independence Day.
- Chula Vista 4th Fest: East County’s premier Independence Day event will feature a host of family-friendly activities, live entertainment all day, and, of course, a fireworks display that starts at 9 p.m.
If you’re committed to celebrating America in America’s Finest City, there are options. In lieu of fireworks in La Jolla, there will be a festive drone show featuring more than 200 drones hovering hundreds of feet above the shoreline.
