Carlsbad Flower Fields Preparing for Big Bloom This Year
The Carlsbad Flower Fields, which open this Friday, are currently preparing for a big bloom after historic amounts of rainfall in San Diego.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Flower Fields, it’s a 55-acre plot of land in Carlsbad Ranch that features rows of colorful Giant Tecolote Ranunculus in shades of red, yellow, orange, and pink.
The bloom season this year officially kicks off on Friday, March 1 and will last through mid-May. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Carlsbad Flower Fields are expecting a big crop this year because of recent rains.
“It is going to be an impressive blooming this year, not to be missed,” General Manager Fred Clarke told the Union-Tribune.
The theme this year is “Spring into Color.” As is typical for the agricultural tourism spot, there are as many as 250,000 people expected to flock to the fields during the blooming season.
As far as what you can expect from the Carlsbad Flower Fields, the business holds volunteer-led educational programs on weekdays. On the weekends, there are a plethora of other events, such as:
- Live music performances from local artists
- Sunset wine tastings
- Flower crown workshops
- Tea in the Garden
- Yoga, meditation, and sound healing
- A free Kids Day on March 23 with giant bubble making, a BMX Freestyle stunt show, and more
The Carlsbad Flower Fields are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Mother’s Day. Tickets are available at the fields, and cost $23 or $14 for children aged 3 to 10.
