Comic-Con, New MCASD Exhibition, The Family Album & More: La Jolla News in Brief July 22
Summer is in full swing in San Diego and La Jolla (LaJolla.com). From Comic-Con plotting out the next few years to weather that will serve as an excuse for your next surf session, here’s the news you need to catch up on this week.
Comic-Con is Here to Stay Through 2030
It looks like Comic-Con is here to stay in San Diego, at least for now. The event, which kicks off Thursday, July 23 and runs through July 26, brings tens of thousands of pop culture fans, celebrities, and cosplayers to America’s Finest City. On Wednesday, organizers announced that the event will stay in San Diego through at least 2030 after a deal between with the city.
Giants at MCASD
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), objectively the San Diego museum with the best view, will host soon “Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys.” The new exhibition will feature more than 130 works of art set to the music of Marvin Gaye. The Family Album at The La Jolla Playhouse
The world premiere of “The Family Album” is set to make its debut on Sunday, July 26 at the La Jolla Playhouse. The musical, created by MILCK, follows an aspiring singer-songwriter trying to balance her career with her obligations to her family. The musical runs through Aug. 23, with the following showtimes:
- 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays
- 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturdays
- 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sundays
Beach Weather Returns to San Diego
It’s the dog days of summer in San Diego. According to local National Weather Service reports, a dome of high pressure has settled over the region and will bring hot and humid weather. Additionally, a hurricane off the coast of southwestern Mexico is bringing waves in the 4- to 7-foot range, with sets reaching up to 9 feet, to San Diego beaches.
