Earth Day 2026: San Diego Preps for 24th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup
For the San Diego community, our oceans, hiking trails, and other natural spaces are a key part of our local lifestyle. This Earth Day, you can help protect them at the 24th annual Creek to Bay Cleanup.
Hosted by I Love A Clean San Diego on Saturday, April 25, the Creek to Bay Cleanup is a countywide event that seeks to remove up to 30,000 pounds of trash, debris, and detritus in a single morning. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon, volunteers will gather at more than 100 sites from Julian to Torrey Pines State Reserve.
Those located in La Jolla can find a number of cleanup sites that are close to home, including La Jolla Shores, The Children’s Pool, and Windansea Beach. According to the organizers, the event represents one of the largest single-day environmental actions in San Diego County.
San Diego culture centers on surfing, wellness, and outdoor activities. As such, access to nature for both recreation and restoration is essential to the mental and physical health benefits these spaces provide. Unfortunately, by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean.
Along with giving back to our local community and helping to keep our natural spaces pristine, the Creek to Bay Cleanup is also a great way to meet like-minded people, get some healing outdoor time, and even work up a good sweat.
If you’d like to sign up and volunteer, you can pick from one of the many cleanup sites on I Love a Clean San Diego’s website.
